UQAM exchange

Hey,

I´m Tien, 25years old student of journalism and international relations from Prague. I´m in Montréal on a university exchange, which ends in April but I plan to stay over the summer before leaving on a North-American road trip (probably August).

I currently live in Le Petit Italien in a cool house with great roommates. My miniature basement room is not suited for a long-term living so I gotta find a new place. I would prefer to stay in the area or move somewhere with a similar vibe. So more-less I´m looking for a shared accommodation close to chill or vibrant “artsy” areas of Montréal like Mile End, Plateau, Outremont, Le Petit Italien etc. (prefer anywhere from Jean Talon Metro to Sherbrook Metro).

But most importantly, I´m looking for a place filled with open-minded English friendly people who are open to SHARE time, activities and outings with their roommates, regularly or every now and then. That´s crucial for me as it would be nice to have a circle of closer everyday friends in Montreal since I´m new in town and not particularly a big fan of that mindless “fridaynight-davidguetta-erasmus-parties” kind of socializing, which is quite usual here in Europe when one is on an exchange. Roommates and their willingness to spend time collectively are by far most important.:) Sure, there is a small chance that some roommates just don´t get along but hopefully not in my case.

Friends would describe me as a chill dude who is: thoughtful, easygoing, creative, active, well-read, a bit (pseudo)intellectual, good-hearted, conflict-free, blahblah….can also be wild partygoer when it´s the right mood. I do like to spend time with interesting people, chill, do sports, music, etc., make long conversations about everything, could be Nietzsche, Arsenal FC or baking cookies, whatever.:) This mostly happens in pubs as I live in the country that´s famous for its beer culture.:)

In Prague, I usually spend my free time on activities that have something to do with music, movies, arts or culture overall, or in public debates (mostly about social issues and politics or architecture and urban planning) and sports. I´m kind of a music nerd who collects albums and listens to pretty much every crap genre out there. Montréal is the hometown of a lot of my favorite musicians (Leonard Cohen, Tim Hecker, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Ought, Dirty Beaches and many more), so concerts will definitely be my common points of interest. Not to mention the Québécois independent cinema, cuisine, and architecture, festivals etc.. I´m actually eager to doing everything new as far as it´s not evil or Donald Trump.

Of course, as your flatmate, I will respect everyone´s time, privacy and independence, keep things clean and tidy, fairly discuss common costs, be helpful and supportive etc.

I don´t mind anyone smoking, I don´t mind whether it´s a room in an apartment or a house, I don´t mind pets. I brought my Telecaster guitar and bass guitar with me but will play only through headphones. My room should have a window, a bed and a desk. That will do…

I speak English, Czech, Vietnamese and German, however, I´m doing my best to learn French and hopefully in few months I will be able to speak a bit. For the moment I could only be the guy with whom when hanging out, you should switch to English.

One additional note: My girlfriend is going to visit me in July. Hope you don´t mind her staying in my room for 2-3 weeks.
